In 2009, We Must Be Holy
By Sylvia Guice
Holiness is a word that is used in the church very often. We love to talk about holiness, but do we know what holiness really is? Individuals have tied the word holiness with the word church. Holiness is not a denomination. Holiness is a lifestyle. The Bible says in I Peter 1:13-16, “Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lust as in your ignorance: but as he who called you is holy, you also must be holy in all your conduct because it is written, “Be holy for I am holy.” (NKJV)
When we give our lives over to the Lord. we are adopted sons and daughters of God.
As children of God, we are expected to be just like him which means we must be holy. Being holy isn’t shouting and fainting in church. It’s much more than speaking in tongues or praying loud enough for everyone to hear you. Being holy is living a clean life before the Lord.In order to live a clean life before the Lord, we need to examine ourselves daily and ask the Lord to deliver us from anything that displeases him. Don’t let the enemy fool you into believing that you have it all together.
We should all strive to have the mind of Christ. When we are Christ-minded, we are enable to love our enemies, pray for those who despitefully use us, forgive those who have hurt us, and not judge our brothers and sisters in Christ.
We also need to have a strong prayer life. The enemy is constantly looking for ways to try to make us fall into sin. If we are prayed and fasted up, we will be able to fight the devil every time he tries to attack us.
As we e approach this new year, let’s strive to live holy before the Lord, so that all men can see His glory shining through our lives. I’ll leave you with this scripture: “…but you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, his own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light, who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.” I Peter 2:9-10 (NKJV)

In 1957, Dr. Morris L. Dulaney, Sr. was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and filled with the Holy Ghost in the city of Pasadena, California. While under the leadership of the late District Elder Thomas Kinslow, he worked faithfully as a Sunday School superintendent and Young Peoples' President. He was called to the ministry in 1958 which eventually led to him serving as the assistant pastor to District Elder Kinslow.
The First Lady of Word of Faith Pentecostal Church, Sister Irma Dulaney, wears various hats. Besides fulfilling the basic duties of being a pastor's wife where she goes above and beyond by helping to oversee several of the church's auxiliaries, she is also a seamstress, the mother of three, the grandmother of six, and even a great-grandmother.
